Hope Diamond / French Blue replica

Own your own copy of the Hope Diamond. This pretty gem would look good on your mantel peice or set in a peice of jewellery.

The hope Diamond was originally a Triangular cut 115 carat Blue Diamond called the Tavernier Blue which was bought from India by Louis XIV of France in 1669. In 1678 Louis XIV had the stone recut into a 67 carat sheild shape gem which came to be known as the French Blue. The French Blue was stolen by theives along with the crown jewels druing the French Revolution in 1792.

The French Blue was brought to England and was cut into 2 stones to disguise its identity. The stone later came into the possetion of a Diamond Merchant in 1812, it is not known what happened to it after then but was thought to be bought by George IV.

The next time the diamond appeared was in 1839, in the gem collection of Henry Philip Hope, it was set in a platinum medalian, surrounded by many smaller diamonds, this medalian is how the hope diamond is displayed today. Philip Hope died and the hope diamond was passed down through his family until it left the Hope family when Lord Henry Francis Hope Pelham-Clinton Hope sold it to a jewel merchant for £29,000 who sold it on in 1908 for $400,000.

The hope diamond was sold and resold and eventually ended up in the National Museum of Natural History, it is now displayed in many different galleries in its original platinum necklace.

The hope Diamond is a 42.52 greyish blue Cushion Cut diamond its dimensions are 25.60mm x 21.78mm x 12mm. The copy sold here, is 25mm x 22mm x 12mm, which is very close to the original and the colour is sapphire blue, it is not as dark as the hope diamond, but is quite close
