The Barion cut is a way of cutting gemstones so that they reflect light in a certain way, they have a pavilion that has a wider angle, so comes out more at the sides, but is still the same height as normal cuts. This elminates the hour glass effect, so the stone sparkles evently all over. It was invented by a lapidarist named Basil Watermeyer, it is named after a cross between his name and his wife Marion.
